It was the Sunday the 19th January 2014 and we started with this simple goal;
“A pair of oars, hand crafted by a master carpenter and boat builder. We want them to be signed by sporting heroes, television, stage, movie stars, local heroes and public figures. All to help raise awareness and save lives from Thrombosis”
On the 18th January 2019, this particular phase of the awareness campaign came to an end when we auctioned the Charity Oars off. What had we achieved in the 5 years we’d been working on this project?
Well we had met, talked to and had the support of some of the world’s leading sportsmen and women, Olympians, Paralympians, World Cup winners, actors, actresses, Oscar nominees, Golden Globe nominees, BAFTA winners, National Television Award winners, Screen Actors Guild award nominee’s, Emmy Award winners, British Comedy Award winners, Grammy award winners.
In fact, all of these amazing people:
Joe Root, Devon Malcolm, Paul Grayson, Oliver Phelps, Ellie Robinson, Derek Redmund, Liam Plunkett, Gary Balance, Jonny Bairstow, Miles Jupp, Jack Russell, James Taylor, Dean Headley, Tanni Grey Thompson, Steve Coogan, Jonny Walton, Jeremy Sallis, Martin Bayfield, Austin Healey, Craig Doyle, Zoe Lee, Helen Glover, Ian Stone, Gordon Greenidge, James Phelps, David Murphy, Steven Crook, Saif Zaib, Rory Kleinveldt, Stephen Merchant, Simon Jones, Ben Duckett, Ed Stanton, Laura Bingham, Billy Connolly, Charlie Martell, Paul Young, Rob Newton, Alex Wakely, Graeme White, David Willey, Maurice Chambers, Kyle Coetzer, Muhammad Azharullah, Richard Levi, Rob Keogh, Ben Brown, Alec Stewart, Allen Lamb, Ashley Giles, Alex Best, Jade Jones, Callum Hall, Hannah Cockroft, Jordanne Whiley, Will Satch, Andrew Triggs Hodge, Dara O’Briain, Nick Robinson, Jos Buttler, Charles Spencer, Martin Corry, Ben Morgan, Sacha Harding, James Pritchard, Harry Peck, Brendan Burke, George Nash, Professor James Logan, Doctor Dawn Harper, Fern Britton, Boris Johnson, Kumar Sangakkara, Matt Lucas, Michael Atherton, Jason Gillespi, Naseer Hussain, Rob Keys, Geraint Jones, Jennifer Stoute, John Regis, Wojciech Szczesny, Gyles Brandreth, Mathew Pinsent and Clare Balding
Due to the success of the Charity Oars campaign, we gained attention from many medical leaders within the field of thrombosis, one such person was Professor Richard Beasley of the Medical Research Institute of New Zealand. So, in 2018 we joined forces to bring the RBR Legflow™ to the world.
On the 12th April 2021, exactly 10 years since I fell to the floor, dead. It’s been quite a journey so far. From 2 wooden oars all the way to having developed the worlds only clinically researched, clinically trialled and clinically proven Deep Vein Thrombosis prevention device.
We’ve raised awareness, we’ve saved lives, we’re supporting research into thrombosis, we’re developing a dedicated counselling service for survivors of thrombosis as well as the families of those who have sadly lost loved ones.
We’re also very proudly supporting Thrombosis Ireland as our dedicated charity for 2021 and 2022.
Thank you for your support, we couldn’t have achieved all that we have without you all.
